Dream bigger: Get started with Generative Fill, powered by Adobe Firefly Generative AI now in Photoshop

A live preview that’s created automatically shows you instantly how the changes you make affect your image. I started with this unremarkable smartphone vacation image above on the left, that I would usually throw away. I first generated a new sky, a snowy mountain, a castle in the style of Alhambra, a boat, and adjusted the colors and lighting a little using the traditional Photoshop adjustment tools. I then generated a reflection of the sky in the lake, which I found surprisingly good.

The latest Lumix puts a Four Thirds sensor in a full-frame body, and includes some of Panasonic’s most advanced imaging tech ever. In my experience, it sometimes works well, and sometimes it’s unusable. Hopefully this offers a more consistent option (I don’t doubt it does).

That being said, as an amateur photographer I don’t think that this kind of functionality is truly essential in any shape or form because this ain’t photography anymore but creative image generation. So much for “stock photos” — those can just be synthesized from the huge database of photos it has seen. Now you will pay a subscription fee rather than royalties, and none of that will go to photographers… Yes, photographers have always lied, but again, never so easily, so extensively, and so convincingly. I’m sure you understand there’s a difference between adding a filter on your lens and creating skies and people out of the blue, or creating picture of places you’ve never been to. I don’t have this type of software yet, but when I get it I will label any pictures that I significantly alter as such.
